The importance of complying with Google's updated EU User Consent Policy

Important update: In light of the challenging circumstances facing many business currently, Google have decided to extend the timeframe to put in a compliant consent mechanism to May 21st 2020

What has changed?

Under Google's updated EU User Consent Policy, you must make certain disclosures to your users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and obtain their consent for the use of cookies or other local storage where legally required, and for the collection, sharing, and use of personal data for ads personalisation.

Last week, partners that were deemed by Google to be outside of their EU User Consent Policy following the update, received a warning, enforcing that a notice obtaining permissions to use cookies and personalised ads is applied to all pages that collect data - including landing pages.

Why you need to comply with Google’s updated EU User Consent Policy

If you don’t comply with Google’s updated policy your Google accounts will be penalised following the May 21st 2020 deadline. Following the release we got in touch with our contact at Google who advised that anyone not compliant past this date will risk sizeable fines, as well as their Google Ads accounts being blacklisted

It is vital that you’ve checked that the notice is being displayed when your site can be entered from EEA countries and let us know if you see any issues.

What White Label Dating are doing to support partners

We acted fast to ensure our partners have considerable time to check over all of their sites. By amending our registration form coding that all of our partners use, we’ve been able to add a consent banner at the top of every landing page. There are a couple of exceptions, for example if partners are using pre-landers without the signup script for example.
